About the Mayor

After serving nine years as provincial legislator handling the most crucial committee on budget and appropriations, former Board member Mariano Martinez decided to run for mayor of San Remigio and won.

Since taking the helm of the town government, Mayor Mariano Martinez has since strived to make San Remigio a better and more prosperous town by initiating various projects. He completed three terms as mayor, retreated from public life, and then came back to win again as mayor.

His hard work paid off, with no less than the Department of the Interior and Local Government recognizing the Martinez-led municipal government by giving it the Seal of Good Local Governance.

His legacy projects include the new and modern municipal building, the bigger Hagnaya port and its passenger terminal, a birthing center, and the TESDA Skills Training Center.

Martinez also pushed for the establishment of eight marine sanctuaries and the reforestation of over 350 hectares of land.

Because of his initiative, there is now a botica in every barangay, a water system in every barangay, an expanded electrification program and road openings that connect the far flung mountain barangays to the town center.

A task force was created to improve the town’s roads, and he started the computerization of municipal services, apart from establishing the e-center for the local community. It was also under his administration that the Lapyahan Festival was created.

Born on September 10, 1964, Martinez is a civil engineer from the University of San Carlos.
